What is this talk about Geek Dinners all about ?

A Geek Dinner is an informal geeky-get-together ... meaning it is an opportunity for people who spend most of their lives in front of their PC's and probably do not get out anywhere near enough and do not command even a hint of marketing proficiency - meaning that their genius will never be realised properly as it should and their great ideas most likely get shelved somewhere dark - (sorry ..trailing off a bit there) ... to get out for a change and meet and share ideas with the very marketing/entrepreneurial types that can help their great skills/ideas see the light of day ... or at least increase the likelihood of such an encounter. Furthermore it is a good head-hunting opportunity for development companies and definitely an opportunity to network and maybe do some business.

Over and above the aforementioned it is an opportunity to sample, re-sample and over-indulge even in some of South Africa's finest wines ... courtesy of Stormhoek. Any former Geek Dinner attendee will tell you that it is worth the outing just for the sake of the renowned Bloggers' favorite - normally dispensed in large goblets by our favorite wine geek, Captain Chris Rawlinson himself.

"Newbies" and people just interested in learning cool stuff, catching up on web trends and making new acquaintances are welcome too. Open source enthusiasts, please attend and get signed up for myXchange too.

There will be 4-5 short talks by passionate geeks who are keen to share ideas or tell us about their latest innovations or discoveries.

More structure, if required will be posted on this wiki so we can all collaborate and create an evening that we'll enjoy and benefit from - opensource style!

If you got 'round to reading this, then you are half-way there and should probably attend. To those who read this due to the skype notification they received - my apologies for the shameless spamming, but something had to be done.
