*Camp (pronounced "Star Camp") is an open event for those interested in technology, where those who attend are encouraged to give talks on things about which they are passionate.
It is an open learning environment for people to share their knowledge with others and learn from others sharing their knowledge. It is a place for people to meet each other and network; to find potential learning or business partners around their passions or personal/workplace challenges.
It runs in the spirit of BarCamp, which made popular the concept of self-organising events. These are events where attendees can arrive on the day and offer to share something (a talk, a tutorial, &c.) and share that all on the day. There isn't a committee deciding on who to approach to talk, or deciding whose knowledge is worth sharing - if someone is passionate enough about the subject to want to share their knowledge, then it is worth sharing.
Those who share their knowledge gain not only recognition and the good feeling of sharing their passion, but also valuable experience in public speaking and in talking to others interested in their work, which helps to build them personally and professionally.
The previous event (BarCamp Cape Town 2006) had over 120 attendees over two days, and this event is expected to have a minimum of 150 to 200 attendees over two days.
